Overview

A visit to the Eravur Cancer Care Hospice provided a space for meaningful connection between youth volunteers and patients facing severe health challenges. By sharing meals, personal presence, and direct monetary contributions, the team sought to offer ease and moral support to individuals receiving care.

Why This Mattered

Navigating long-term illness often brings emotional strain alongside medical challenges. Beyond medical care, patients and their families benefit from direct community interaction, nourishment, and moral presence that recognize their experience and help ease daily pressures.

What We Did

  • Distributed meals and refreshments, including cake, roti, milk packets, lunch, and evening tea.
  • Spent time engaging directly with hospice residents to extend emotional encouragement and companionship.
  • Handed over LKR 170,000 raised from public donors and well-wishers directly to the hospital administration.
  • Coordinated travel, logistics, and accommodation for participating committee members, advisors, and volunteers.
  • Collected fixed contributions from participants to cover internal transportation and operational needs.

Immediate Impact

  • Provided emotional comfort, companionship, and human connection to cancer patients and their families.
  • Delivered full daily meals and refreshments to hospice residents, caregivers, and facility staff.

Long-term Value

  • Strengthened the culture of volunteerism and civic responsibility among young

Financial & Material Transparency

Total expenses utilized for the project amounted to LKR 279,800, covering meals, snacks, transportation, accommodation, and logistical arrangements. Each participant contributed LKR 2,000 toward transportation expenses, while collected funds covered overall operations. Additionally, LKR 170,000 gathered from public donations was handed directly to the hospital, leaving an unused project balance of LKR 1,000.

Community involvement plays a critical role in supporting individuals during medical treatment. Continued engagement from volunteers ensures that hospice residents receive practical care and personal connection when it matters most.
